EEL 6935 - Broadband Telecommunications
(Note: This is a revised course of EEL 6531 - Telecommunications
I)
Tentative Schedule: Summer 1997, Summer 1999
Since the class could not be offered last Summer, it is planned for
Spring 1998.
Prerequisites: (recommended):
EEL 5572 - Local and Metropolitan Area Networks (or) Consent of
Instructor.
Prerequisites by Topic:
Basic understanding of data communications and networking
Catalog Description: PR: EEL 4102 or CC.
Introduction to Telecommunications, Telephone (voice and data), video and
facsimile transmission, Intersymbol interference, adaptive equalizers,
error correcting codes. (3 credits)
Goals:
To provide an introduction to broadband communications and their
applications. The emerging standards for broadband integrated services
digital network (BISDN) based on SONET and ATM will be discussed. These
networks will provide an end-to-end transport for bandwidth on demand
multimedia services integrating variable rate voice, data, image and
video signals.
