1. How do I find out more about the Ph.D. in Engineering Science program?
 

Identify one or more faculty members in the College who are most connected to your area of interest.  Contact those professor(s) to explore the possibility of a Ph.D. in Engineering Science. 

2. How do I apply to the Ph.D. in Engineering Science program?
 

Apply online through the Graduate School website at http://www.grad.usf.edu/graduate-admissions.asp. Supplemental materials (transcripts, test scores, recommendation letters, statement of purpose) are mailed to:

3. How does my application get to the Department I want?
 

The Graduate Admissions office will send your application to the College of Engineering Dean’s office.  We will contact you to get information on which host department should receive your application.

4. Who makes the decision on my admission?
 

The Graduate Program Director, in conjunction with the professor(s) in your field of interest, will make a decision on accepting you into the Ph.D. in Engineering Science program.  Your application is then routed back to the College of Engineering Dean’ s office and back to the Graduate School for final processing.

5. How do I know what courses to take?
 

Your (Co-)Major Professor(s) will work with you to develop a unique Program of Study.

6. Where do I go for information on general academic policies?
 

Refer to the Graduate Catalog at http://www.grad.usf.edu/catalog.php , your (Co-)Major Professors, and your host department's Graduate Program Director and Graduate Program Assistant, who will be helping you with basic forms and information.

7. Where do I go for general academic processing (e.g., registration, petitions, graduation application)?
 

Your academic file will be hosted by one of the College of Engineering's 6 departments, based on which department your (Co-)Major Professor(s) is/are in. You will see the Graduate Program Assistant in that department for basic academic processing.

8. Do I need 1 professor or 2 co-major professors?
 

Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the program, in most cases students will have two Co-Major Professors. However, in some circumstances, one Major Professor could have a specialty that is itself interdisciplinary.

9. What format will my Qualifiers be in?
 

Your Supervisory Committee will design and grade your Ph.D. Qualifying Exam. This exam needs to have written and oral components, per University and College of Engineering requirements.
