Friday, September 1:
We met with Professor Huang and set up our classes. There are still a few
classes we have to find out time slots for but that should be figured out
by Monday. On this day we also went to the police station to fill out our
Alien Resident Application and everything went very smoothly. The MRT is
very simple to figure out so that should pose no threat to getting around
the city or deter anybody else from using the system.
We talked about the senior design class that we have to take with Professor
Huang and apparently it is a class that we do on our own time. Jake, Paul,
and I had the opportunity to take a tour of campus with both Professor
Huangs, the VLSI professor and Microwave and Antennas professor, and
explored the design and simulation processes of antennas. We found this to
be an interesting field. So and idea for our project would be to create an
antenna for a FM transmitter. Jake's senior design team was working on a
FM transmitter for his group. Professor Huang had mentioned that we could
use the resources from his labs. So as of now, we are going to check into
that idea and set up a meeting to figure out a good project.
An update on the Chinese course is as follows:
* We will have two hour sessions at Tatung University starting Monday
during our orientation time
* The reason for this is that the Taipei Normal University will require
us to pay for those courses so the Tatung administration thought this
would be a good idea
* If we choose to take more Chinese courses we can do so for about $200
US starting in October
I think that we are all ready for classes to start. Everyone including
students and professors show a positive outlook on learning and continuing
innovations in the electrical engineering field. They are sincere and show
great enthusiasm for higher learning. We are excited for these classes and
opportunities to start and will show great respect for everyone around
us.
I will keep on sending updates as they seem necessary.
