Summary: This video discusses a polyimide resin that has been developed by NASA Langley Research Center as a low cost high temperature resin to be used on its own or paired with carbon fibers to create advanced composites. The advantages of this new resin are having high operating temperatures up to 1000o F, high chemical and corrosion resistance. Its low friction and thermal expansion make it ideal for use in high temperature in non-stick coatings or objects that are in constant contact with salt water. Due to its ability to be easily tailored a variety of uses and properties can be achieved. Finally RP46 is much less toxic than other resins available.
