I was born in Venezuela. I graduated from my B.S. in Chemical Engineer in 2001. I have just finished my M.S. in Chem. Eng. and my goal is to finish my Ph.D. I work at the Nanosurface-Chemistry and Green Materials Chemistry Laboratory. My project involves the study and characterization of the interactions between amyloid Beta (Ab) peptides and biomimetic cell membranes. Ab peptides accumulate in Alzheimer's disease (AD) plaques onto neuron's surfaces. I used the Langmuir-Blodgett technique to construct the model membranes and the Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) to look at their topology. I also use Attenuated total Reflection-Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR) to look at the kinetic mechanisms of AD fibril and plaque formation. I will be using the Surface Forces Apparatus (SFA) technique to elucidate the adhesion mechanisms associated to Ab plaques formation. My research is also focused on looking at the interfacial phenomena between biomimetic membranes and MEMS devices to determine their compatibility and physicochemical interactions. I have mentored 4 undergraduate students and I love to surf the www. |
